How users shaped the evolution of Audiobook Binder Pro

I developed Audiobook Binder Pro in early 2025 as a personal tool. It was very basic to start with and solved the problem I was facing of binding mainly mp3 files into audiobook. In December 2025 I decided to publish it on insistence of a friend and after few App Store review cycles it was up in January 2026.

Most of what this app does now started with someone writing in. Some of it came from App Store reviews. More of it came from plain email, asking if the app could do something or telling me something was broken.

Here are the ones where I can point at the change. Newest first. I have left names out.

A chapter started the second the last one ended

Added in 2.3. A customer said their book played like one long block of speech. There was no gap between chapters. The app can now put a short silence before each chapter if enabled in settings.

“Add to Apple Books” was on, but the book never appeared

Fixed in 2.3. A customer turned the setting on and nothing showed up in their library. Nothing was broken. They had exported one file per chapter, and that mode never adds anything to Apple Books. Only a single file export does. The app now says this where you choose the mode, instead of leaving you to work it out. This also made me clarify the “one file per chapter” as an extraction - rather than binding.

Choosing a save folder on every single export

Added in 2.2. A customer who exports a lot of books had to pick the folder every time. You can now set a default save folder once, in Settings, and the app shows where the book will be saved before you start. On TestFlight I found the bug where the app lost access to that folder after a restart. That was caught and fixed before production release.

An export that froze partway through

Fixed in 2.1.1. A tester exported a folder of 40 files and it stopped around file 17, every time, stuck at 0 percent. It turned out to be a check the app runs before encoding each file. On some Macs that check never finished, and the export waited for it forever. The app now waits only briefly and then carries on with the software encoder.

One long file and a list of chapter times

Added in 2.1.1. Two people asked for this separately. They had a single long recording and a text file with timestamps in it. The app now reads that list and cuts the recording into chapters. It handles plain timestamps, OGM lists and CUE sheets.

Taking a book apart instead of building one

Added in 2.0. A customer asked for the opposite of what the app did. They had a finished M4B and wanted the chapters back as separate files. The app can now extract an audiobook into one file per chapter.

A player that would not read M4B

Added in 2.0. Someone had a device that only played plain audio files. The app now exports M4A as well as M4B.
